Back at Base Camp
I talked with Bud both last night and this morning. It was a little surreal to be sitting in McDonalds having my breakfast, reading my paper and then to receive a call and realize that it is probably unusual for most people to receive a call from Everest Base Camp here in Columbus, Georgia.
Bud asked me to update on days when he might be unable to get a dispatch out. So while I am not nearly as picturesque in my speech, I will try to keep you current on where he is in his adventure.
It looks like the 20th is going to be a potential good weather summit date. Bud said that he is scheduled to go up in the first group from their camp and that they will probably leave in 2 days. Bud will give more details of the process they will follow to get to the top in his next dispatch.
Bud sounded strong and eager to get on with this. He told me that he had 3 more nights at Base Camp by his estimation. Sounds like he is ready to get home. I can imagine the level of activity at Base Camp as all the teams begin to make preparations to begin the ascent.
I always keep my cell phone with me and on 24 hours a day when Bud is on a climb. But now, I will be even more vigilant.
Between Bud and I, we will keep you informed of his progress.
Terri
